On May 31, a regular online meeting of SumDU Library staff with colleagues from the Library of the University of Liverpool took place within the framework of the «Unity Initiative» project. This meeting was dedicated to getting acquainted with the KnowHow service.

During the meeting, Heather Johnston, one of the developers of KnowHow seminars, told us about this service. Students join seminars of their choice, or the teacher recommends the student to take one or another seminar, observing his / her gaps in learning.

The series of seminars includes the following topics:

  • academic writing;
  • finding information;
  • referencing;
  • time management;
  • working with statistics;
  • preparing for presentations.

The content of the service is in the virtual learning environment called Canvas, which contains online tutorials, presentations, and other materials on these topics.

We concluded that our libraries are working in the same direction. Librarians of SumDU also provide information and advisory support to scientists, teachers, and students. In addition, our library specialists have developed a module "Working with scientific sources" within the discipline "Fundamentals of Academic Writing" (created theoretical material, tests, and practical tasks) and for the third year in a row, we teach it as a major discipline for bachelors in the first year of study in all educational programs.

At the end of the meeting, we agreed to hold a series of seminars on academic writing for our students in September-October with the participation of foreign colleagues.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. We thank our colleagues for their cooperation, help, and support.
