On February 21, representatives of all nations and nationalities of the world celebrate the International Mother Language Day.

Language is the history of the people, their worldview, intellectual and spiritual result of several thousand years of evolution of each ethnic group. Without its language, its original culture, there is no nation.

Almost 2,000 foreign students from over 50 countries study at SumDU. Students from Ukraine, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Tanzania, Morocco, India, Turkmenistan, Zimbabwe together with the SumDU library joined the flash mob "". This phrase in the video sounded in different languages. Listen to how colorful Sumy State University speaks in the languages of its students!

The holiday was launched in 1999 to protect linguistic and cultural diversity. The International Mother Language Festival was to protect the language as a cultural heritage of each individual nationality, each nationality on our planet.

On February 21, 1952, in Bangladesh, East Pakistan, authorities brutally suppressed protesters against a government ban on the use of their native language. It was at the suggestion of this country that UNESCO declared February 21 the International Mother Language Day.
