2020 is coming to an end, and it is time to take stock.

Since 2018, SumDU Library implements and supports environmental initiatives and activities within the All-Ukrainian ecological space "Green Library".

We take an active part in university and city environmental campaigns to clean the environment from debris. In 2020, together with SumDU volunteers, they once again joined the ecocross "Clean Ukraine – Clean Earth".

In order to promote life in the style of ECO in 2020, we have created and conducted interesting interactive events, quizzes and online games:

• eco-quests "Life without Trash";
• training seminars with schoolchildren and students;
• training "Daily steps for the better. What will the world be like in 2030?";
• quizzes on social networks "Going Zero Waste" for the World Recycling Day;
• Swap party "We will save you from junk";
• quarantine in the style of "Eco Hand made". Let's decorate the house for Easter;
• a charity flash mob at the shelter of the Sumy Society for the Protection of Animals;
• a series of handmade lessons for the New Year holidays "Warmth of Our Hands". Create unique crafts with your own hands – give old things a second life!

This year the rubric "Eco-activist's Аlphabet" was launched on social networks, where we talked about the principles of a green office, lifestyle "Zero waste", "green cars and technology", eco-conscious nutrition.

As part of the concept of "Zero Waste" in the Library of SumDU and its branches from 2018 to 2020 were collected and sent for processing:

• 300 kg of waste paper;
• 1000 paper cups;
• 150 kg batteries;
• 30 kg of raw material (plastic, glass, metal);
• 3 kg of lids (donated for the manufacture of prostheses).

We constantly take care of the attractive microclimate in the library, creating comfortable green areas. An aquarium with decorative fish has appeared in the reading room, which attracts attention and promotes readers relaxation.

Another important area of ​​development of the "Green Library" project is to support the idea of ​​promoting a healthy lifestyle. For visitors who use environmentally friendly modes of transport, a bicycle parking lot has been installed near the Central building of the library, and an exercise bike is waiting for active users in the Coworking University space.

We strive to continue to support and implement the principles of eco-conscious living. In 2021, we plan to implement such projects as the installation of benches with solar panels on the territory of the university; opening of a creative workshop; launch of the sorting station.

Our library's eco-initiatives are open to support. We are looking for creative, purposeful, environmentally conscious partners. We look forward to seeing you as members of our "green community"!
