How to choose a magazine for publication?

Open Access Journals and Resources

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a directory of open access journals, contains more than 8 thousand journal names. The system is open to scientific periodicals that meet the published standards of the Budapest Open Access Initiative.

E-Journals.org is a base of links to sites of electronic journals of the world from different branches of knowledge.

Electronic Journals Library is a collection of electronic academic journals, comprising 64 thousand names of journals including 29 thousand open access
journals.

Elsevier is a collection of open access journals published by Elsevier.

BASE is one of the most powerful open access scientific resource search (OAI-PMH) systems available on the Internet, supported by the Bielefeld University Library. There are more than 53 million documents on various topics.

Journals4Free is a portal of academic open access journals (over 7 thousand titles). The search is performed by categories, language or presence in
databases: ScopusPubMedISI Master.

JournalTOs Discovery Service is a search service for current scientific information. The search is performed by the names and contents of the titles of authoritative scientific commercial journals and free access journals (more than 15 thousand titles). JournalTOCs indexes articles as soon as they appear on the web.

Group A – scientific publications that are included in the international scientometric Web of Science or Scopus databases

Group B – scientific publications that are included in other international scientometric databases. Publications are subject to independent review; there are foreign specialists in the field of science (knowledge) in the editorial board; articles have a Digital object identifier (DOI); abstracts to articles in English contain at least 1800 characters

Group С – scientific professional publications that are excluded from category A or B for a period of two years to improve the status of the journal. Category B publication, which has not been granted the right to assign category A or category B within two years, is removed from the list without the right to renew

Impact factor is the citation index and informational significance of scientific journals indexed by Journal Citation Report (WoS, Clarivate Analytics).

The influence coefficient is calculated for 3 years and 5 years. It can be considered as the average ratio of the number of citations of articles in the journal during the current year to the total number of articles published in this journal for the previous two years. For example, the influence coefficient of the journal for 2018 will be calculated in such a way:

CiteScore is an Elsevier’s citation index that uses citation data from the Scopus database to rank journals. The calculation of the indicator is carried out by analogy with the impact factor, but three previous years instead of two are taken into account.

CiteScore

SNIP (Source-Normalized Impact per Paper) is the Scopus citation index calculated as the number of citations quoted this year for publications over the past three years, is divided by the total number of publications over the past three years. 

Scimago Journal & Country Rank is a citation index for journals indexed by the Scopus database. The calculation is based on the number of articles cited and the degree of credibility of journals, as well as the proximity of their subjects.

Cofactor

Cofactor is a tool for selecting a journal; it allows filtering by topic, type of review, speed of viewing and publishing, and other indices. Cofactor still contains a limited number of journals, primarily in the field of biology and medicine.

The experience of foreign colleagues-scientists is available via Science Direct and ResearcheGate.

ScienceDirect

ScienceDirect is one of the largest online collections of published scientific researches. It is owned by the Dutch publisher Elsevier. The collection contains almost 12 million content items with more than 3,500 journals and over 34,000 e-books, reference books, scientific collections. 

ResearchGate

ResearcherGate is a scientific portal and social network, a means of cooperation between scientists from many scientific disciplines. ResearchGate contains semantic search, file sharing, public use of publication database, forums, methodological discussions, groups, etc.

Semantic Scholar

Semantic Scholar – is a project developed at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. The project uses a combination of machine learning, natural language processing, and machine vision to add a layer of semantic analysis to the traditional methods of citation analysis and to extract relevant figures, entities, and venues from papers. In comparison to Google Scholar and PubMed, Semantic Scholar is designed to highlight the most important and influential papers and to identify the connections between them.
